FACE Program at Tonalea Day School

Tonalea Day School participates in the Family and Child Education (FACE) Program, which fosters collaboration between Native families, educators and community members. This early childhood education service (prenatal to 5 years old) promotes the social, emotional and cognitive development of every child.

The FACE Program’s goal is to also provide parents/guardians with the tools, resources and information they need to fulfill their role as their child’s first and most influential teacher. Parents should participate in FACE to understand their children’s academic needs and develop proper expectations for academic achievement.

The FACE Program ensures parent/guardian readiness and student readiness for school through its home-based parenting, preschool education and adult education services. Parent/guardian involvement in a child’s education prepares them for appropriate literacy achievement and establishes lifelong learning habits.

FACE workshops and seminars cover a variety of parenting, child development and educational strategies to aid in family development. These sessions allow families to connect, share and grow together in preparation for their child’s educational journey. We are creating inclusive environments where families can feel valued, welcomed and prepared.

The goal of the FACE Program is to support and celebrate the unique cultural and linguistic diversity of each community. Our students, parents/guardians, community members and staff are able to acquire and share skills in our Navajo language and Tribal culture. Tonalea Day School parents/guardians and community members are invited to participate in our beneficial FACE Program.

About Us

At Tonalea Day School, we believe that a child's education is a shared responsibility between the school, families and the community. The FACE Program serves as a bridge to connect these essential stakeholders in a collaborative effort to create a positive and enriching educational experience for our students.

Our Goals

1. Building Strong Partnerships

We aim to create meaningful partnerships between families, teachers and community members. By working together, we can provide a supportive environment that nurtures the academic, social and emotional growth of every child.

2. Empowering Families

We believe that informed and engaged families play a crucial role in a child's success. The FACE Program offers workshops, resources and events that empower families with the knowledge and tools they need to actively participate in their child's education.

3. Enhancing Student Learning

Through the FACE Program, we strive to enhance the learning experience for every student. By involving families in their child's education, we create a strong foundation for academic achievement and personal growth.

4. Promoting Cultural Understanding

Tonalea Day School celebrates diversity and cultural richness. Our FACE Program endeavors to create an inclusive environment where all families feel valued, respected and welcome.
