Overview
Welcome to the home and dynamic learning environment of the Tonalea Day School Wildcats. Our students embrace the Navajo language and culture, celebrate Native traditions and heritage, and engage with and master new technologies. Wildcats learn, develop and grow through our holistic teaching strategies, and establish a community of lifelong learners and leaders.
The Wildcat Vision
Tonalea Day School uses a challenging but comfortable learning environment to educate, guide, and support students for success inside and outside the classroom. Every student's achievements, big and small, translate into social and emotional well-being that will support them for the rest of their lives. Our educational program teaches and introduces students to a wide range of life skills and academic disciplines.
Students learn to retain community and culture while gaining knowledge and life skills that prepare them for the future. We believe every Wildcat has the ability to advance and succeed when protected and supported in the Tonalea Day School learning environment. We equip our faculty and staff with state-of-the-art tools and resources that give every student the opportunity to succeed.
Preparing for the Future
Our kindergarten through 8th-grade students are learning and being introduced to a variety of advanced technologies. As our Dine community grows and develops, our future leaders will apply the skills they are learning at Tonalea Day School. The goal is to engage students mentally, empower them physically, and establish a healthy foundation to educate our Native children. Specialized programs that introduce principles of electronics, STEM, engineering, computer coding, and more are preparing our future leaders for the diverse challenges of the 21st century.
Holistic Learning
Tonalea Day School Wildcats receive an education that focuses on the entire well-being of the student. Health and wellness is a broad and comprehensive discipline when supporting students through an educational journey. Social, emotional, and cultural health are vital to the success of our Navajo students. Our educational program provides many opportunities for students, educators, families and community members to engage with identity and culture.
Dual-Language Literacy
Preserving our Dine language and culture is vital to the Tonalea Day School curriculum. Students develop a deeper connection and appreciation for their language and culture as they gain beneficial skills to be the next generation of our Navajo Nation.
