Special Education at Tonalea Day School
Tonalea Day School is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment for all of our students with special needs. Our Special Education program supports students with a wide range of diverse learning challenges. We empower every student with the tools and resources needed to excel and reach their full potential.
We have a team of highly qualified special education teachers led by Ella Farrell. This Special Education team possesses the knowledge, experience, and passion to meet the unique needs of every student. Our dedicated specialists believe in establishing and protecting our supportive learning environment, which includes speech and language therapy and occupational or physical therapy.
We adapt the Special Education curriculum to meet the needs of a child’s abilities. Instructional periods will employ assistive technologies whenever necessary, and we decrease group sizes to provide special attention to specific needs. Our goal is to guide every student toward independent learning abilities.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) are the strategies teachers, parents, and specialists devise to ensure a student’s progress. These plans allow our special education teachers to address the specific student needs and monitor their progress. Any necessary accommodations will be added to the IEP, the student’s learning environment, and evaluated for effectiveness.
Tonalea Day School’s Special Education program believes in a strong partnership between parents, families, and educators. We encourage families to be actively involved in every step of a student’s progression through our Special Education program. Student success depends heavily on parent/guardian feedback, suggestions, and questions. Working together is vital to ensuring student success.
